What I believe…

I believe that we all have an obligation to treat one another with dignity and respect and to give back to our communities through active civic participation as far as we are able. I also believe that those who seek public office or hold a position of public trust must hold themselves to the highest standards of integrity and act with honor. In addition to my Catholic faith, my worldview has been profoundly shaped by the principles of the Scout Oath and the Scout Law. I share those with you here, to give you a better sense of who I am and what I believe.

The Scout Oath and Law

Scout Oath: On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

Scout Law: A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

The American’s Creed

I believe in the United States of America as a government of the people, by the people, for the people; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed, a democracy in a republic, a sovereign Nation of many sovereign States; a perfect union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of freedom, equality, justice, and humanity for which American patriots sacrificed their lives and fortunes.

I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to love it, to support its Constitution, to obey its laws, to respect its flag, and to defend it against all enemies.
